BBC iPlayer - Free TV on the Internet
61
Watching your favourite TV shows has never been so easy. BBC iPlayer now gives users the ability to watch programmes that they have missed up to a month later for FREE!
BBC iPlayer enables UK residents the chance to keep up to date with their programmes without the need to be in front of their TV. When away from home BBC iPlayer makes it easy to watch programmes that are broadcasted regularly.
Viewing on the move
It can operate on a variety of consoles with varying operating systems such as Windows, Mac and Linux computers as well as iPhones and the Nintendo Wii. At the same time programmes that you can’t necessarily watch on the move because of a constantly alternating internet connection can be saved to some of the devices mentioned so they may be viewed at a later date. Programmes that are saved can only be kept for a limit of up to 30 days but can be permanently downloaded to a device if needed. It could be a useful feature if you wanted to download a programme to your mobile phone ready to watch on the train when travelling.
Streaming
The entire service is made possible by streaming the television programmes. It means that you can find what you want and just ‘Click to Play’ to start watching your desired programme. The service is not limited to just television but also goes out to radio programmes as well. Streaming of programmes can only be done within the United Kingdom as it is a service provided by the UK license payer.
If your using a mobile device to watch a programme it is recommended that a wi-fi connection is used where a broadband connection is made use of. If you attempt to use a 3G connection or less expect the streaming of the programme to buffer constantly.
